We are a fertile enough country that we could easily and cheaply provide significant macronutrients to the world. If the free market had greater reign and farm subsidies, biofuel subsidies, etc. were fewer, there would be more food available to feed the hungry. Also, if we permitted ourselves to become more energy independent through judicious expansion of national drilling & refining, nuclear and clean energy sources, biofuels would be taken off the table.
That being said, in many of these countries, government corruption and war, more than a lack of outside effort prohibit food delivery to the hungry.
The girl effect (education and freedom) are what people in these countries need. With time, they will eventually be able to take care of themselves.
